Gareth Pugh On Kylie Minogue, His Accountant & How His Brother Introduced Him To Fashion
Looks from Gareth Pugh's Autumn/Winter 2012 collection
Since Gareth Pugh won the highly coveted ANDAM award in 2008 and therefore the mega opportunity to showcase his collection each season as part of the Paris Fashion Week schedule, weve missed his presence on the London scene. His uncompromisingly fierce vision of the future is just one of the reasons why his killer clothes make for editorial shoot dreams and are the perfect fodder for fashion royalty like Rihanna, Beyonce and Gaga. This weekend hes swapped pattern cutting for vodka, well, kind of, by designing an equally innovative portable cocktail bar Grey Goose Winter Ball To Benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Well have a cocktail, but would like to know more about the man, so we took a minutes Q&A with Pugh
Grazia Daily: How did you originally get into fashion?
Gareth Pugh: 'My brother used to spend all his money on designer clothes, and I used to spend all my time stealing them.'
Grazia Daily: Whats the scariest thing for you each season?
Gareth Pugh: 'The recurring dream of waking up on show day with no samples.'
Grazia Daily: How do you find Paris Fashion Week different to LFW?
Gareth Pugh: 'Taxis are so much harder to come by!'
Grazia Daily: Is there one thing that people would be surprised to know about you?
Gareth Pugh: 'That would be telling...'
Grazia Daily: Oh, no fair. So is there one piece youve designed yourself that you wear time and time again?
Gareth Pugh: 'Theres a long black fur coat that I made for a show in London years ago that alw! ays comes out when it gets cold- in fact I have it on right now.'
Beyonce and Kylie rock the stage in Gareth Pugh's creations
Grazia Daily: Have you ever taken a really crazy turn and designed something totally against the Gareth Pugh grain? If so, what was it.
Gareth Pugh: 'Gareth Pugh for Kylie is always a fun one to do.'
Grazia Daily: Do you think youd ever do a commercial collaboration? Like a high street collection?
Gareth Pugh: 'I'd never say never.'

Gareth Pugh: 'The importance of sometimes saying 'no'.'
Grazia Daily: Are there any trends or fads that youve worn and regretted or anything you would never want to design?

Grazia Daily: What can you not live without?
