Kylie Minogue Offered Last-minute Acting Role

Kylie Minogue was offered a role in a dark comedy on British Tv shortly before filming began after the actress originally hired for the job dropped out.

The Australian pop singer appears in Hey Diddly Dee, a comedy based on pop artist Andy Warhol, opposite Gavin & Stacey star Matthew Horne, and the actor has revealed he called in a favour from Minogue at the last minute when a castmember quit.

Horne, who previously hosted the BRIT Awards with Minogue, tells The Sun, "An actress pulled out quite close to filming. (Director) Marc (Warren) texted me saying, 'Have you got any ideas?' I said, 'Why don't you ask Kylie?' and he laughed. But he didn't realise I have a sort of friendship with her.

"The production company were saying, 'Don't be ridiculous, she'll never do it.' But I rang her - I thought maybe she would like to play a sort of sexually voracious man-eater, which she quite truly isn't. I wish she was!

"Eventually I got a call from (Warren) saying, 'Kylie's doing it, and I'm in Wagamamas (restaurant), crying'."

The drama, which is part of the U.K.'s Playhouse Presents series, airs in Britain on Thursday (18Apr13).
