Hall of Fame for Kylie, Wiggles

Pop princess Kylie Minogue and children's entertainers the Wiggles will be inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association's Hall of Fame next month.

Two of Australia's most successful musical exports will join the likes of AC/DC, Slim Dusty, Paul Kelly, John Farnham and INXS in the pantheon of home grown music at the ARIA Awards in Sydney on November 27.

Minogue will be only the eighth solo female artist inducted into the Hall of Fame since its inception in 1988, the year after the former Neighbours starlet released her debut single, Locomotion.

She won her first ARIA Award for that hit in 1988, and has racked up 35 nominations for nine wins at Australia's peak industry gongs.

An ARIA spokeswoman confirmed that Minogue would attend the ceremony, which this year will be part of the main awards after being a stand-alone event in recent years.

The Wiggles will be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility the skivvy-wearing quartet marks 20 years together this year.

The group formed when founding members Anthony Field, Murray Cook and Greg Page met while studying early childhood education at Sydney's Macquarie University.

Jeff Fatt, who played with Field in the popular 80s band the Cockroaches, completed the line-up.

The Wiggles released their self-titled debut album in 1991, launching one of the most lucrative careers in children's entertainment.

They have won nine ARIA Awards, all for best childrens album, and notably performed 12 sold-out concerts at New York's Madison Square Garden in 2003.

Five years ago, Page left the group due to illness and was replaced as yellow Wiggle by former understudy Sam Moran.

Both Page and Moran will be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame alongside the other Wiggles and Minogue.

The 25th annual ARIA Awards will broadcast on digital channel Go! on Sunday, November 27 from 7.30pm.
