Kylie rolls into Cannes

Kylie Minogue will discuss her role starring alongside Eva Mendes in a new sci-fi fantasy on Wednesday.

French film Holy Motors tells the story of one man, played by Denis Lavant, who travels between multiple parallel lives, occupying various roles as he goes.

Director Leos Carax said of the film: "Holy Motors was born of my incapacity to carry out several projects, all of them in another language and another country.

"They all ran into the same obstacles: casting and cash."

He said one of the images he had in mind for the film was of the stretch limousines that have appeared in the last few years, which quickly become the heart of the film.

"I imagined them as long vessels carrying humans on their final journeys, their final assignments," he said.

"The film is therefore a form of science fiction, in which humans, beasts and machines are on the verge of extinction - 'sacred motors' are linked together by a common fate and solidarity, slaves to an increasingly virtual world."

Minogue stars as Eva/Jean in the film while Mendes portrays a character called Kay M.

Holy Motors is one of the 22 films in competition for the top Palme d'Or prize at Cannes Film Festival this year and Minogue, along with others members of the cast, will attend a press conference to discuss the film.
