Kylie ready for Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras Queen-in-waiting Kylie Minogue has stepped out in Sydney to promise her fans a spectacular show for her post-parade party.

While the pop princess has been celebrating her 25th anniversary in reflective mood, releasing stripped down orchestral versions of her songs online, she assured fans of a pumped up party come Saturday night.

It has been 12 years since Minogue last starred at Mardi Gras and delighted fans with hits like Better The Devil You Know.

She said it felt right to be returning for this year's event, as the guest of honour at a VIP cocktail party to launch Mardi Gras on Thursday evening.

'A lot of effort is still going into the performance on Saturday night and personally I'm excited to see the parade and feel the spirit of the city, the spirit of the people and to be part of that is a beautiful thing,' Minogue told AAP.

The Aphrodite star has two more pressing engagements later this year after it emerged she would be performing for the Queen's Jubilee Anniversary and also carrying the Olympic torch in London.

While proud to be honoured by queen and adopted country, she treats every audience with equal respect.

'Every audience is like royalty to me, they really are.

'By the time we get to the golden jubilee performance maybe I will be thinking, oh god the Queen's watching it's going to go wrong' or just get out and do what I normally do.'

Minogue is promising a frenetic and high energy set as the show-stopping act at Mardi Gras on Saturday, her only performance in Australia before returning to the UK.

She says the one-off show is among the best gigs any artist can hope to play around the world.

'What makes it special is the relationship and how genuine this connection is and the support the community has given me over the years.

'I would like to take advantage of this opportunity to thank them.'
