Kylie the rock goddess

Pop princess Kylie Minogue was the special guest at this year's Mardi Gras.

Kylie Minogue has announced her `anti-tour' featuring B-sides, demos and rarities will debut in Australia.

KYLIE Minogue swapped her pop princess tiara to embrace her inner rock goddess at her Anti Tour show at Luna Park's Big Top.

If the ripped denim shorts and white singlet weren't a loud enough signal that this was a no-frills Kylie we hadn't seen before, the booming glam rock of opener Magnetic Electric confirmed it.

With a stripped band of four musicians and three backing vocalists, no feathers or couture fashion to dazzle, the entire show rested on Kylie's voice and performance.

You could even hear her puffing - this was the Impossible Princess doing all the heavy lifting and managing it with aplomb.

That's a tough gig when you consider she wasn't playing it safe with the hits but dishing out b sides and rarities as advertised.

She was engaging and funny - busting out an acapella chorus of Rainbow Connection.

"I didn't do it the way you wanted me to which was as a muppet," she joked.

The crowd roared after her rock out on B side Cherry Bomb and X album track Stars was a hugely popular inclusion.

Many of her super fans had made their own set lists and were rewarded with online faves including Paper Dolls.

Although she did harp on a bit about giving 'life' to songs which Had 'illegally' leaked online. It's the digital age and it happens to everyone.

Maybe the Anti Tour vibe will continue on her next album and we will have more of Rock Kylie.
