Kylie Minogue: My musical has taken back seat but it will happen

The 44-year-old singer has completed a synopsis with her creative director and stylist William Baker, and had hoped to have the musical ready this year. But she has been busy with her K25 celebrations, a year-long series of events and releases to mark her 25 years in pop music.

She said: It actually took a bit of a back seat because so many other things are happening. But its lurking. I think its going to happen one way or another. It wont happen until I have got another album done. I was warned it would take a long time and now Im understanding that.

You cant present a musical which is going to cost however much to do, and then go, Actually, forget that one, heres a new improved one. Youve got to take your time and get it right.

Minogue said she had no plans to appear in the musical and it is not based on her life her songs merely provide the backdrop.

Speaking at the launch of her new album The Abbey Road Sessions at the Savoy hotel, she added: Weve got the material, and maybe by the time it happens Ill have more material. My friend William and I have done the synopsis. The aim would be to do it in the West End. I love to see great musicals, so I wouldnt say its a pipe dream, but it is a dream and its going to take a while.
